Homeowners affected by the October hurricane that clobbered the northeast got some face-to-face help from representatives of mortgage servicers and insurance companies at an event held on Saturday on Westbury, New York. Non-profit housing counseling organizations, representatives of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FEMA were also at the event.
According to HOPE NOW, an event sponsor, over 300 victims of Hurricane Sandy attended. Other sponsors were New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, NeighborWorks® America, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Long Island Housing Partnership and Community Development Corporation of Long Island.
Nine of the largest mortgage servicing companies sent representatives to the event including the Ocwen, PNC, And Citi Mortgage and large insurers included Travelers, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual and the New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association. Local, HUD-approved, non-profit housing counseling agencies who attended, included American Debt Resources, Long Island Housing Services and Nassau County Office of Housing and Community Development.
Faith Schwartz, Executive Director of HOPE NOW said, "Many organizations came together, in a very short amount of time, to make this event happen. From planning to execution, this event was a complete success and a testament to the commitment of the industry, non-profits and government agencies to work together for the benefit of struggling homeowners. HOPE NOW is grateful to all who donated time, funding and resources to spend nine hours on a Saturday, for the sole purpose of assisting those in need."
